Engulfed in flames in front of him, was Alex’s home, one of the only places of comfort and protection, now engulfed in those flames, the same flames in his dreams, he needed to stop it, but even he knew that at the state it has, it was more important to save whoever was inside: His family was still in there.
Without much hesitation, he immediately sprinted into the house, almost being unrecognicable, the first room he saw was his parents, he tried to open the door, but the handle was not budging, something was blocking the other side of the door.
Alex: TO HELL WITH IT!
With little to no effort, Alex pulled the door towards his side, ripping it from its foundation before tossing it into the remains of the kitchen, his vision was clouded by the intense smoke, but one thing was clear from the first few glances; They weren’t there.
A little sigh of relief came into Alex’s mind as he continued to look into the room.
Alex: (They’re not here, that’s good…what about Kenai?)
With this thought in mind, he directed his attention to the second floor of the house, sprinting immediately and jumping a few of the steps to reach there as most of the stairs was apparently burned.
With the door missing, Alex shouted for her name.
Alex: Kenai! You better not be here or I will kill you!
To his relief, the room appeared to be empty, no signs of Kenai of his fathers were in the house, which left Alex wondering.
Alex: (They must’ve escaped the fire in time…but where were they?)
That’s when he remembers Kenai running to the lower part of the city.
Alex: (What is she doing going there? Is she seriously planning to save people? I will kill her if she’s planning to play the “hero’s” role now.)
Before the second floor was about to finish burning up, Alex jumped from the window directly to the city’s street, where he immediately started running towards where he last saw Kenai, where he managed to get a better glimpse at the destruction of the city up until now, the corpses were either burning or bleeding, the houses were all either blowing or burning, and the air was either filled with screams, or with dead silence wherever he ran.
But They don’t matter, right?
When Alex had reached the middle road, he heard Him talking, like a piercing arrow in the everlasting smoke, his voice was booming loud and clear as the thunder from the rain, as besides his voice, he felt something; An almost soul-like grip at his core.
Alex: Come out bastard! You might’ve evaded me last time, but I got you this time asshole.
Shouldn’t you be worried about the important things? Like her for example?
Alex still tries to locate where the voice is coming.
Alex: You should worry about your well being asshole.
Come on Alex, we both know I’m not speaking about your sister.
As soon as those words left his mouth, Alex’s gaze immediately directed themselves towards Caney’s house, were he was able to not only see the silhouette standing in front of the door, but also felt that dragging feeling intensify more.
Alex: IF YOU GO INSIDE THAT DOOR-
Your threats wont work here, if you want to stop me, come and find me.
Alex’s mind decided itself of the spot, and started running towards Caney’s house, taking as many shortcuts as possible to reach the house, and as part of it, having to pass by the park, where he got a glimpse at the tree where he met Lucia for the first time, and instead of seeing the swings, instead saw the corpse of multiple children’s hanging from it, all of them with a dagger going through their mouths as the blood dripped to the floor, feeding the once peaceful tree.
Their bodies had each an etched letter into them that spelled out the following sentence:
DEATH TO THE IRON LEGION.
Alex managed to noticed the bodies from the kids that hurt Lucia, making him only stand there in awe.
They deserved worst, right Alex?
That single sentence in his head made him wake up before continuing his trail towards Caney’s house, getting ever so close to it, but still being far away, and although Alex could only think of Lucia’s well being, something troubled him, he couldn’t shake that uneasy gripping feeling, in fact, it was made only stronger by every step he got to the house, although his worries would have to wait, and so, without realizing, Alex’s was acting for someone else’s well being.
