The Calm Before The Storm
We see Alex and Kenai chatting as they move to get to their rooms where Kenai stretches his arms a bit as he walks to his bed.
Kenai: I see that everything is still in place from last time!
Kenai starts to put his things down on the furniture near his bed while Alex just walks towards his bed and falls face first into it, his eyes slowly start to close, and after a few seconds, Alex starts to fall asleep…for a few seconds, before he starts to feel some light pushes on his back and hears Kenai’s voice.
Kenai: Hey Alex, you can’t go to sleep yet kid~.
Alex: Kenai, I’m not in the mood to deal with you~.
Alex receives a blow to the head which lifts him off his bed.
Alex: NOW I AM DAMN IT!
Alex tries to go for a punch towards Kenai, but Kenai simply moves backwards, causing Alex to fall off the bed and onto the floor, when he finally gets up angrily, Kenai sits on his bed and invites him to sit down.
Kenai: Come, sit down, we have something to talk about.
Alex leans out with a fist at the ready, standing in front of Kenai.
Alex: I haven’t had a very good day, the only thing I want to do now is sleep, so get out of bed.
At that moment Alex notices Kenai’s look different, he didn’t wear the sarcastic smile that irritated him and his eyes were intense, looking directly at Alex.
They both stand for a few moments looking at each other, and even though he doesn’t like it, Alex sits somewhat away from Kenai as he looks down at the floor.
Alex: I hope this is worth having to wake me up.
He now moves his gaze to Kenai’s as he lies back on the bed with his arms behind his head.
Alex: Tell me, I’m going to fall asleep any second now.
Kenai: What happened today?
Are you serious?
You’re not stupid, I’m sure you already know what happened….
Kenai: No, I want YOU to tell me what happened.
Beth told me what she knew, but there are a lot of things missing from that story that don’t make sense.
Alex stares at Kenai for a few moments, before letting out a long sigh and answering him.
It won’t change anything what I tell you now.
Kenai: That’s not true, Alex, since I’ve arrived you’ve had something on your mind, I’ve never seen you like this in my life, if you don’t want to tell our parents, you can at least trust me.
They both remain silent for a few seconds, before Alex breaks the silence.
Alex: How annoying you are…
Kenai averts her gaze for a brief moment and gets up to go to her bed, turning her back to Alex.
Hearing this stops her from walking.
Alex: I’ll tell you everything I know about what happened with Lucia, but after that, you’ll let me sleep, done?
Kenai turns around with a smile and answers Alex.
Kenai: You have a deal, after you tell me what you know, I’ll let you sleep like a good little boy~.
Alex: I’M NOT A BOY! ARGH!!!!
They spend a long time where Alex tells him about when he first met Lucia in the park until the last time he saw her and every detail, from Caney to the children, anything he saw he slowly told Kenai, and she listened patiently.
Alex: …and that’s it.
Alex finally looks at Kenai for the first time since she started telling the story. She wore a surprised face while Alex raises her eyebrow.
Alex: Why are you looking at me like that?
Kenai: I’m…just a little surprised, that’s all.
Alex: I noticed, your face says it all, now can you go to bed? I want to sleep.
Alex gets a little tap on the shoulder from Kenai.
Kenai: I didn’t see you as the gentlemanly type Alex~.
Alex: Don’t start with that already, those kids were asking for it by doing that to Lucia.
Kenai: It’s not their fault anyway, well, not entirely anyway.
This gets Alex’s attention enough to get up from the bed and look at Kenai as she continued to sit up.
Alex: What did you say?
Kenai gets up and starts walking around the room as she looks at Alex.
Kenai: Yes, what they did was bad, but you shouldn’t have taken your anger out on them, you should have taken it out on the parents for putting those ideas into them about you….
Alex: WHAT?! THEY ALMOST KILLED HER FOR JUST TALKING TO ME! HOW CAN YOU SAY THEY WEREN’T GUILTY?!
Kenai: I NEVER said they weren’t guilty Alex! But they’re just kids, it’s the parents’ fault for planting the idea that you’re a monster!
Alex walks up and comes face to face with Kenai.
Alex: Oh come on, you can’t be serious right now, kids or not, they beat Lucia to the point that she STILL has bruises even when the Old Woman healed her!!!!
Kenai: Because they thought she was a “witch”, otherwise they wouldn’t have done it!!!!
You can see how Alex starts to show his teeth and turns away from Kenai with his back to her.
Alex: What was I supposed to do then? Are you going to tell me that I should have told Caney that his granddaughter almost died because some kids beat her to death?
Kenai: You could’ve-
Alex: Or maybe I should have told the parents of those children about their children’s actions when they were the ones who taught them to treat me like that?
Kenai keeps quiet after hearing what Alex says, at which point Alex looks outside her bedroom window.
Alex: I don’t regret for a second what those bastards went through….
Alex turns around to look Kenai in the eyes.
Alex: They haven’t seen a real monster yet.
Alex’s gaze makes an impact on Kenai, yet it doesn’t take long for her to hit him in the head.
Kenai: It won’t work for you to scare me kid!
Alex: Hey, why did you do that?!
Kenai stands still for a few seconds looking at him, then answers him.
Kenai: No reason, I just wanted to do it~.
This irritates Alex more than usual, but before he tries anything, Kenai rests his hand on her shoulder and says something to her.
Kenai: Don’t let that get to you Alex, you’re not a monster, you never were.
Alex: Why do you say that out of the blue?
Kenai walks a bit towards her bed before jumping up and ending up lying on it.
Alex: …okay, whatever you say.
(What’s wrong with her today?)
Alex starts walking slowly towards her bed before finally laying down on her bed. Before she can finally close her eyes, she hears Kenai say one last thing as she starts reading a book.
Kenai: Rest well Alex.
Alex says nothing in response to that, and begins to close his eyes as his body relaxes and falls into a deep sleep…or at least that’s what you would say if it had happened, but no matter how many minutes passed, or even hours, Alex couldn’t fall asleep, he felt the presence of someone else in the room.
Oh? Who knew, things finally started to stir.
In that brief moment, Alex opens her eyes, seeing that there is no one there, only Kenai in her bed with a book on her, even so, that feeling was still present in the room.
Alex: (It’s the same presence as before…it’s coming from the window).
Alex looks out the window of his room, since that is where the sensation is stronger, he opens the window and can see the houses near his, he can slowly hear the sound of a light rain in the town.
Looks like we have some visitors, its about time we introduce ourselves.
Alex gets chills when he hears this, and looks in the direction of the voice, where he sees a silhouette in the darkness of the night, the silhouette begins to fade into the trees.
Alex: (What the hell was that..?)
Alex decides to jump out of the window towards the street of the town to chase in a hurry whatever this silhouette is, at that moment he hears the sound of thunder echoing in the distance while some humanoid figures emerge from the other side of the town.
